Saskatchewan elected sworn into office at Batoche ceremony

With the historic Batoche Festival Grounds as the backdrop,  members of Métis Nation–Saskatchewan (MN–S) Provincial Métis Council (PMC)  swore their Oath of office today in accordance with the MN–S Constitution 2008.

Elected officials were joined by Elders, local presidents and loved ones from  across all MN–S Regions to witness this event, launching the important work  elected officials will undertake on behalf of Métis citizens over the next four years.

Delivering his inaugural address MN–S President Glen McCallum said, “Métis  citizens have given us a mandate to continue to build on the gains we have made  over the past four years and move forward in an accountable and transparent  way.”

President McCallum said, “It’s encouraging that a total 54 Métis citizens in the  province put their names forward for the 2021 MN–S election. That shows a  strong, democratic process is in place and the people are engaged.” He went on to  say, “Those individuals who take office today will be asked to work together to  make important decisions that will positively impact the lives of Métis citizens,  families and communities for generations to come. It is a great honour and a great  responsibility and I look forward to getting to work to keep strengthening our  government, our people, and our future.”

Today’s ceremony was capped off with some traditional Métis music provided by  the respected Father and son duo, Phil and Dalls Boyer.
