Curses

An insidious poison coursing all through veins,
a maddening inferno is this feverish pitch.
Lying awake still there are dreams,
of searing, grasping, aching flames.
Old ghosts greet haunting memory,
further fueling this loathsome state.
Tossing, turning soon to be day-break,
get up & pace still no escape.
Having been stricken before & to think,
immunities should halt this venomous beast.
Yet still it continues to race,
reaching for the heart it does not hesitate.
Rancid hands soon take hold,
ensuing battle will unfold,
To the victor what will it be?
Breaking fever or continued misery.
Should it be the latter I am only Cupids jest I fear,
losing another I hold dear.
